Fluids and Capacities

The R32 GT-R has many different fluid based systems onboard, mostly due to the 4WD (ATTESA) and rear steering functionality (SUPER HICAS). The below table outlines the various fluids to use as per the workshop manual. Some of these may no longer be available due to the age of the workshop manual, however it can still be used to understand what standard (such as GL-4) and viscosity (such as 75W-90) are required for each system. RB26 Air Intake Temperature and Heat Soak

Image
The RB26 has an air intake temperature sensor located in the intake plenum. If you research about it, you'll generally find people providing feedback that the sensor responds slowly and is impacted by heat soak. I plugged my laptop into my car's stock ECU via an ECUTalk cable and utilised their software to log the temperature sensor as I drove to see how it responds. Drive 1 To give a bit of context about the drive: I started logging at approx. 5:30PM and ended at approx. 6:30PM. The drive was about 1 hour. I was driving during peak hour weekday traffic. This resulted in a lot of idling in traffic as well as low speeds. Ambient temperature was about 20°C. Entire log. After about 20mins of driving (including a few minutes of warm up idling), the temperature sensor went from 19 °C  to 50 °C . It then essentially stayed between 50 °C  and 59 °C  for the majority of the drive, dipping down into the high 40s when I had some road speed. The ambient temperature was definitely no...

Service Parts - Air, Oil and Fuel Filters

What is a Filter? A filter's job is to keep an air or liquid clean from contaminants that may cause damage. It does this by allowing that air or liquid to pass through the filter (the filter medium, which could be paper or a synthetic material), which would catch various particles down to a specific particle size. Those particles remain in the filter and are not allowed to re-enter the system. They are therefore removed once the filter is replaced. In the case of the R32, R33 and R34 GT-Rs, they only have an air filter, engine oil filter and a fuel filter. And generally, the air filter and engine oil filter are the ones most people focus on. Air Filter An air filter is positioned generally at start of the air intake of an engine, and ensures that clean filtered air only makes its way into the engine to use for combustion. This is important to help protect the cylinder walls within the engine. Imagine not having an air filter installed and the engine sucks in a whole bunch of sand/d...
